Bass are strong fighters that can be found in lakes, reservoirs, ponds, rivers, and streams and have even been found in ditches at roadsides! All bass are scent and visual predators therefore foreign smells such as tobacco and strong aftershaves can affect them. In the US Bass fishing as a sport was advanced by large and smallmouth bass being stocked outside their usual habitat in the late 1900`s. As the US railroad began to grow, back bass were transported in barrels and buckets via the railroad and kept alive with the water from tank ponds, which were built to provide water for steam engines. The biggest bass ever caught was in 2006 and weighed in at a massive 25 pounds and 1 ounce, it was then released so could sit be swimming around and be caught again. Bass fishing began the 1800`s and is the second most popular, sought after game fish in the U.S.
